WHAT WAS

Aside from a passing reference in a "scouting report" by Victor Kral in May of 1950, I can't find much other information. Kral mentioned talking to a Mr. Roy Claire Ames of Ione about a flourospar mine.

Records indicate he owned The Allied Group, shipping 81 tons of 92% calcium flouride in 1951. The mine had a 25 foot incllined shaft.

Mr. Ames was born in Iowa on May 8, 1890, died in June of 1966 while living in Austin, Nevada, and is buried in the cemetary in Tonopha, Nevada. Thanks for Carol Frey and Find-A-Grave for the photograph.

WHAT IS

Whatever he was up to, Ames was here for a while. There was a two story house, a shop, one of the most enduring double-seater outhouses we've ever seen, and the corpses of several automobiles and trucks ranging from what appears to be the 1920's to a 1950's Ford.
