Argentum, also known as Gates Mill, was a mill operation that began in the 1950's, and, according to Paher, ran for about a decade. The Brookside Quarries, Inc. which is owned and operated by E. S. Gates and associates is also engaged in tungsten mining. This property is located 8 miles north of Coaldale, 3 miles west of the highway, and one mile from the old camp of Columbus. There is a mill on the property and several men are steadily employed. ARGENTUM

Judging from appearances and vehicles, there is a mill here on the south side of the road still in operation, milling something. There is also a rather large set of ruins of what appears to be a previous mill site on the opposite side of the road. |
