What Was Since Nevada is going to become a nuclear dumping ground for all the other states, and because I ran across a very cool website, I thought I'd include this here as the ultimate ghost town trip. Yeah, it's not in Nevada, and yeah, it's not even in this hemisphere. Well, OK, it's in the Northern Hemisphere, but not in the Western Hemisphere, so technically, it is and it isn't. Anyway, just in case there is someone who was 2 years old in 1986, Chornobyl (also spelled Chernobyl) is the site of the USSR's (the former Soviet Republic) worst nuclear accident. They were testing the poorly-designed reactor, made some mistakes, the reactor exploded, and a lot of people were killed and a lot more were evacuated. Nasty business. |
